I recently just finished Mad Men
and though I didn’t really know what to expect other than seeing Jon Hamm. It
takes place in the 1960s and 1970s and focuses on an advertising company and
one particular man, Don Draper (Jon Hamm). Obviously because of the time in
which it take place, there is some serious discrimination and harassment that
is present throughout the series. Needless to say that my liberal female self
was pretty angry while watching it – but that didn’t take away from my opinion
of it. This definitely isn’t a show for you if you’re used to climatic plots
but it really is a testament to the times – especially for us who were not
alive during those times.
Obviously
because of the time in which it take place, it’s pretty easy to set a musical
theme. Some of the artists featured on the show include Ella Fitzgerald, Miles
Davis, Bob Dylan, Chubby Checker, Johnny Mathis, The Clovers,
Benny Goodman, Skeeter Davis, Simon & Garfunkel, The Rolling Stones, Etta
James, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Nancy Sinatra, Frank Sinatra, David Bowie,
Buddy Holly, and the Doors. Listen to the Rolling Stones’ “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”
below!
