Shonda Rhimes is a
genius for even thinking of this show – it’s probably my favorite out of all
the ones she’s created, which is why I have saved this post for last. How to Get Away with Murder focuses on
the great Annalise Keating, a lawyer and law professor that gets involved with
a group of her students – “gets involved” is probably an understatement but
we’ll just leave it at that to avoid any spoilers.
If you have read any of my other posts, you’ll know that each of Shonda Rhimes shows has a distinct musical theme. Scandal was soul/R&B, Grey’s Anatomy was emotional pop, and How to Get Away with Murder is electronic. Given the nature of the show, the music must be moody and slightly cool – very like Annalise Keating herself.
Some of the artists
featured in the show include Bassnectar, Chvrches, Pefume Genius, Son Lux, Cage
the Elephant, Joywave, IAMX, Flume, and Zola Jesus. Clearly it’s very
electronic based but it works so well with the show. The show often speeds up
some scenes for dramatic affect, which compliments the music so well. Give a listen to one of my favorites below!
“Ixode” by Zola Jesus
